Germany's Chancellor for Another Four Years!
Angela Merkel has been Germany's Chancellor, or leader, for over ten years. And yesterday, the 22nd of September, was a historic day for Germany as she won the elections again and was re-elected as leader of the country for another four years! BERLIN, September 2013. Her political party, the conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) won 41.5 percent of the entire number of votes. Hundreds of thousands of voters supported Ms Merkel, who is often called the world's most powerful woman. She is popular among the people especially because she guided Germany through a difficult financial period. Angela Merkel's stunning score meant that she nearly became the only chancellor to win an absolute majority ('absolute majority' means more than half of the total votes cast by people) since Germany's first post-war (after World War II) leader, Mr Konrad Adenauer, 56 years ago.

If she serves at least until 2017, she will become Europe's longest serving female leader, beating Margaret Thatcher who was Britain's prime minister for 11 years. Political leaders from around the world, such as French President Mr Francois Hollande and Britain's Prime Minister Mr David Cameron, congratulated her after her historic victory.
