Non-stick mayonnaise packaging being developed
Have you ever tried to get the last bit of mayonnaise or tomato sauce out of the bottle? What do you do? I either repeatedly bash the bottle several times to get the sauce out – which can be quite painful for my hands – or I dig through my drawers for the slimmest spoon I can find with the longest handle and try to probe and coax the sauce out.
There are people who can't feel pain. Click here to find out more.
Regardless what I do, there is always some sauce left in the bottle. Apparently getting the last bit of sauce out of a bottle is a common annoyance for consumers. I’m sure that many of us, from time to time, look at the wasted dregs stuck in a bottle of mayo and wonder why suppliers haven’t been able to solve this issue. Now however, there is a solution!
Sauce lovers rejoice: mayonnaise that does not get stuck in its container is being developed by a Norwegian company. Orkla is the first food manufacturer to announce a deal with US company Liquiglide to use its non-stick coating in product packaging.
Don’t worry about the safety concerns of the coating. Liquiglide’s coating is completely harmless and meets safety standards because it can be made entirely from food. A customized version of the coating is created for each product, resulting in a “permanently wet” surface inside the container that helps the product slip out.
Liquiglide was founded in 2012 after a revolutionary non-stick technology was developed in an American university. The company is currently working with other US organizations to use the technology in their products.
So not only will Liquiglide reduce wastage, it will also stop all that senseless bottle bashing and save many a hand from injuries, letting mayo fans everywhere enjoy till the very last drop! Now this is what I call a “genius in a bottle”!
