An elderly lady, 72 was lost in Arizona forest for nine days along with her dog! She was saved when the rescue crew spotted a “HELP” signal on the ground made from sticks and rocks.
Ann Rodgers was headed out to visit her grandchildren in Phoenix in her hybrid vehicle on 31 March. She got lost and her vehicle ran out of both gas and electric power. Her car was found 3 days after search began.
Ann Rodgers survived by eating desert plants and drinking pond water.
The rescue crew found her dog on 9 April and a flight crew spotted the “HELP” signal on the ground made from sticks and rocks. Ann Rodgers was then found on the nearby Fort Apache Reservation after trying to start a signal fire.

Though suffering from exposure, Ann Rodgers was found in fair condition. She could walk and board the helicopter with little assistance. She was later taken to a hospital in Payson for treatment and was released after.
