Rich Chinese man buys 2 gold Apple watches for dog
If this is what is called a dog’s life, perhaps it isn’t so bad to be one after all – at least if your owner is Wang Sicong.
Wang, the son of China’s richest man, bought not one, but two Apple watches for his dog. And not just any Apple watch but the ultra-expensive rose gold Apple watch, that retails for $12,000 and upwards in the US. That’s $28,000 worth of bling in total!
Wang even posted photos of his dog – a Siberian Husky named Wang Keke - wearing an Apple watch each on his two front paws, on the dog’s personal Weibo account, with a caption that read,
“Haha, I have new watches! I’m supposed to have four watches since I have four legs. But that seems too tuhao so I kept it down to two, which totally fits my status. Do you have one?”
The word ‘tuhao’ is a derogatory term meaning vulgar wealth or nouveau riche.
The dog’s Weibo account has 700,000 followers. In a country where most people still earn less than $5,000 a year, the post prompted all manner of backlash, with most responses filled with expletives.
Wang Sicong’s father, Wang Jianlin, is the chairman of the largest real estate developer in China, and the country’s richest man.
But despite his father’s $14.1 billion net worth, there’s still one Apple watch Wang Sicong can’t get his hands on. Kanye West, Beyonce and Karl Lagerfeld are among the lucky few celebs to own a gold link bracelet Apple watch edition.
Not advertised anywhere on Apple’s website, it is apparently given out only to the most prestigious A-listers – proof that there are still some things that money can’t buy!
