Kristine Cavanaugh, the voice of Babe, the pig, dies On 22 December 2014, voice actor Christine Cavanaugh, who lent her voice to Babe, the pig, in the 1995 movie Babe, died in Utah, USA. She was 51 years old.

It was even nominated for the award of Best Picture. Cavanaugh was more than just another voice actor. She gave character and personality to many film and cartoon characters and made them unforgettable. Most of her voice-overs were for children’s films and the intonations and effects she could work with her voice was remarkable. Her very first voiceover was in 1991 for Gosalyn Waddlemeyer-Mallard of the television series Darkwing Duck. If you watch The Rugrats, listen closely to the voice of Chuckie Finster. In Dexter’s Laboratory, follow the boy scientist Dexter and you will catch the charm and range of Cavanaugh’s voice in both. For her characterisation of Dexter, she won an Annie Award, given for excellence in animation. Hers was also the voice of Oblina, a monster in the 1994 production, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters. She retired from voice acting in 2001. Although Cavanaugh was an adult when she dubbed for Rugrats, she reminded herself that she was giving her voice to the character of a child. “There’s a certain energy to that,” she explained in a documentary on the film. Thousands of her fans around the world would say a clear “Yes!” to that! The actor that film-goers knew as Kristine Cavanaugh was born Christine Josephine Sandberg on 16 August 1963. Although her parents were Rheta and Waldo Sandberg, she was brought up by Margaret Sandberg who died when Kristine was 15. She was then cared for by Linda and Kirt Johnson, whom she saw as her parents. Her career as an actor began in 1988 and she acted in feature films like Jerry Maguire and Soulmates.
