Loggerhead turtles finally go home
FREE AT LAST!
On November 21, 2013, two loggerhead sea turtles were finally free to go home. They had been at the Israeli Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Gaash, a coastal resort in Israel, being treated for their injuries. Found at sea by Israeli fishermen a few months ago, they were brought to the rescue centre for treatment.
Loggerhead turtles are one of seven species of sea turtles. They and another species, the green turtle, are in danger of becoming extinct. Turtles are often harmed by pollution, plastic bags, fishing nets and boat motors. The lucky ones are sent to the Israeli Sea Turtle Rescue Centre for treatment. Besides treating injured turtles, the rescue centre also takes care of turtle eggs until they hatch safely.
Do you think that the Israeli Sea Turtle Rescue Centre is doing a good thing? Why do you think it is important to protect our animals from becoming extinct?
