Is that a painting or a photograph?
If you’re looking at the portrait of Coleman Coyne, it could be either.Sixteen-year-old artist Shania McDonagh of Ireland has stunned the world with a drawing of Coyne, a fisherman and seaweed harvester. She copied the rugged face, down to the grey stubble, from a portrait photograph. This incredible pencil portrait was Shania’s fourth participation in the annual Texaco Children’s Art Competition held in Ireland every year since 1955. Shania has won in her age category for the last four years but in 2014, she won the first prize of the entire competition. In a tribute to the subject (the person whose painting she made), she has titled her painting, "Coleman". Apart from the competition, Shania also won $2,075 (€1,500). Declan McGonagle, director of the National College of Art and Design and the chairman of the panel judging this competition believes Shania could be one of the most talented artists of her generation and she may become Ireland’s most famous portrait artists. The original photograph was shot by James Fennell.
