THE WONDERS OF MUSIC
In Indonesia, many children can't wait to see Sara Michieletto perform. She plays wonderful, soothing classical music to children and brings them lots of joy.
41-year-old Sara Michieletto is a top Italian violinist who has played with top orchestras in Europe.
She uses music therapy to help less fortunate children, many of whom live in the streets or orphanages. Michieletto has played for children in the Palestinian territory of the West Bank and Indian slums as well.
Michieletto says, "In the case of children from disadvantaged backgrounds, this is so important because they have faced a lot of difficult things in the past and trauma. Music is a very powerful means of conveying emotions."
Many children find themselves happier, calmer and more peaceful ever since they started listening to Michieletto's violin music.
Michieletto started playing the violin for underprivileged children in 2004. In the past 10 years, she has played for thousands of children around the world. Besides performing on her violin, Michieletto also organises workshops in drama, singing, photography and dance.
She feels that playing for underprivileged children brings her a lot of joy as well. "When I play for the children, for me it's like playing in an important concert," she said.
