The
US Open Tennis tournament begins today, with many believing that this could finally be
Andy Murray’s year in the tennis championship.

There were Four hot favorites this year: Andy Murray, Roger Federer,
Rafael Nadal and Novac Djokovic
With World number 3, Rafael Nadal having to withdraw with a knee injury, the favourites will be Murray, Federer, and current US Open champion Novac Djokovic.
Tennis has been dominated by two men and two finals over the past few months:
Roger Federer and Andy Murray!!
Roger Federer (via Fotopedia)
Roger Federer has already won the tournament 5 times!! So who would back against him winning it again? With Murray showing that he has the nerve to beat Federer in a major final, however, this might just be his year.
First there was the Wimbledon final back in July this year, which saw Murray fight for the right to be named the first British Wimbledon champion in 76 years against Roger Federer.
Imagine that, Britain is the home of tennis, and no British champion for 76 years!
(that is three quarters of a century!!)
In Wimbledon, the dream didn’t come true for Murray, however, as the genius that is Roger Federer was victorious under the Centre Court roof.
It was Federer’s 7
th Wimbledon title!! Putting him level with Pete Sampras and William Renshaw as the most successful men's tennis player at Wimbledon ever!!
With London hosting the 30
th Olympic Games, and Federer and Murray again on top form, it was less than a month before the two met again in a major final on centre court.
This time the British Olympic spirit gave Murray the edge, as he flew to a straight sets victory over the greatest player ever, to win Olympic gold!
Murray had done it!! Finally beaten Federer in a major final, and on centre court at Wimbledon!! Perhaps this puts him one step closer to realizing his grand slam dream.

Mish- The Whiz Kid
There are four grand slams every season. The Australian, French, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Roger Federer has won all four at least once, and has 17 grand slam titles in all.
Murray is still yet to win one!!
